Spotlight On A Vendor …..Orlando Harpist Christine MacPhail

Today’s spotlight is on Christine MacPhail, Orlando Harpist.  Christine began playing the harp at age 6 and has been playing professionally in the Central Florida area for over 25 years. She enjoys playing a variety of music of all styles, from classical to contemporary, and always loves learning new songs and adapting them to the harp. Christine MacPhail When 27 Miracles interviewed Christine and asked why she wanted to get involved with The Gift of Life, her reply was ” I am honored to be helping Rosie to benefit A Story of Faith and Florida Hospital.  The story of her son Kaleb is inspirational and would touch anyone’s heart.  Rosie and the 27 Miracles Team are continually giving back to the community and I am privileged to be included at her charitable events.” ChristineMacPhailPic2 Christine and her harp bless many in the Central Florida area by playing at weddings, charity events and more…..Her music is very inspiring. When Baby Kaleb was born, Christine made a cd for him that to date he still listens to before bed.  The music was soothing to him during those long nights of hearing an oxygen concentrator all day and night.  He became so used to Christine’s music that when she played at Kaleb’s baby dedication, he immediately turned his head to Christine’s music. 061310 Kaleb's Baby Dedication at the First Baptist Church of Windermere

Today’s Spotlight is on Roque Productions

27 Miracles wants to recognize Andres Roque of Roque Productions.  Andres and his team are no strangers to working and giving back to the community.  That is in fact how Rosie Moore of 27 Miracles met Andres.  She was in need of vendors to work at the 27 Miracles Christmas Extravaganza in downtown Winter Garden.  Rosie did not know Andres but they met at a Bridal Show.  When Rosie emailed vendors for assistance in this event, Andres was the first to say, I will help.  This event was to raise funds and honor the Brides Against Breast Cancer, Toys for Tots and the Boys and Girls Club of Winter Garden.  With over 400 plus people attending the event, the night was a success on that cold December 2, 2010 weeknight.

After that Roque Productions has worked with 27 Miracles on various other community events, weddings and Quinces.   27 Miracles’ clients are always happy with the stellar work that they perform.

When we asked Andres why do you do what you do for the community, his reply “If you have the opportunity to get involved with The Gift of Life event, I really encourage you to do so. Over the past 4 years, we have worked with Rosie and the 27 Miracles team on numerous events for great causes.  They truly have their community’s best interest at heart and their drive to help others is admirable.  We are all called to help our neighbor and the events put together by 27 Miracles have become a great way for us to do so. “

Roque Productions is in the business of “Making It Happen” for their clients. Since the beginning, CEO Andrés Roque, made it a point for his clients to feel valued and this carries through the company. From the planning process to the post event wrap-up, you’ll understand that they are driven to go beyond. Sure, there are lots of companies that provide similar services, but the difference in how they provide these services can only be experienced.

Unsung Hero Gets Recognized

You might ask what is an unsung hero?

“An unsung hero is a role model whose generous acts of compassion, strength, selflessness, perseverance and, quite possibly, sacrifice make a profound and positive difference on the course of history.” Lowell Milken Center

The other day A Story of Faith and 27 Miracles  brought you the story of Glenn Ferguson, a world-famous Caricaturist that is sponsoring  The Gift of Life event on September 13 2014.  If you missed his story, click on this link https://27miracles.com/2014/05/29/spotlight-on-glenn-ferguson-caricature-artist/

Today A Story of Faith and 27 Miracles want to bring you another story on one unsung hero.  It is the daughter of Master Bridal Consultant Rosie Moore .   After the initial shock that a teenager receives that mom is having a baby, that was the start of a whirlwind change in her young teen age life. Kayla was 14 yrs old when Kaleb was born at 27 weeks weighing only 1lb and 10 oz.  A micropreemie born 13 weeks early.  Life still had to go on for Kayla despite the fact that her baby brother was clinging to life in the NICU.  Many days and nights of schedule changes, homework at the hospital, dinners out on the road and no family fun activities on the weekends due to trips to the hospital.  But she quietly helped to be supportive, although never knowing what was really going on.

DSC00617

DSC00859

Life care coaches at the hospital brought Kayla in to see the baby for the very first time in November when he was a little more stable in the step down NICU.  It was very shocking for a teen to see such a tiny baby all attached  to wires and machines supporting his life.  She was given the chance to hold him, but it was much to scary for her.

DSC00583

The weeks and months passed by and Kaleb was finally able to come home. Coming home, that is where more challenges came about. In March 2010, Kaleb came home to be on  18 different medication dosages, oxygen 24/7, apnea monitors at night, 2 types of breathing treatments every four hours, tube feedings every 3 hours, occupational, speech and physical therapists coming to the house daily, 2-3 drs appts every week.  Wow life was definitely not normal here . Kayla started to see the care that was involved in taking care of Kaleb.  Little by little she learned about his care and treatment.

DSC02588

DSC02631

In June 2010, Rosie, Marcus, Kayla and Baby Kaleb, planned a trip to  visit Marcus’ family in NJ.  Oh boy with all that Kaleb had going on, that sounds crazy.  All the necessary permissions were obtained to carry equipment on the flight.  Kaleb was weaned off the oxygen little by little so that he can sustain a 2 hour flight until he would be on the ground again to receive the oxygen. It was an interesting sight at the checkout counter with 8 carry on bags, 6 checked bags, stroller and car seat.  For three people and a baby wow, but Kayla helped all the way through with taking care of him. She learned how to do his breathing treatments and how to do his tube feedings and administer his medications.

Today she is 19 years old and a college student at PBA studying Communications.  She is today’s unsung hero as she turned 19 years old yesterday and we remember her today for stepping up to the plate and helping a difficult situation be an easier situation.  Kayla helped  to take care of Kaleb whenever her parents had to do a wedding or event or just needed some down time to rest or relax.

A Mother’s Journey

When Rosie Moore Married her love Marcus Moore, she always imagined that they would get pregnant and have a baby or two and life would be easy.  After being married a year they decided that was the time to start their new family together.  The year went by and no success.  They visited their doctor who said hmm we shall have to start infertility treatments to help you along the way because your body has forgotten how to get pregnant after a 13 year lapse.  So reluctantly for a few months  they tried it the doctor’s way.  Rosie got to the point that she did not want anymore interventions and planned appointments.  They prayed to the Lord and said, Lord let your will be done.  Three months after treatment stopped on the Friday before mother’s day, Rosie was able to give Marcus the biggest surprise ever.  God intervened and they were expecting their first child.

Rosie August 2009 Maternity DSC00576 DSC00452

A few months in to the pregnancy after all the other trials of pregnancy, the doctors discovered that Rosie had stroke level high blood pressure and she did not have any symptoms, which worried them.  They became concerned and said immediate hospital stays were mandatory. Kaleb’s life and Rosie’s life were in danger.  On an unssupecting day while already hospitalized, Kaleb’s heart rate dropped, he had the cord wrapped around his neck three times.  An emergency c-section was needed.

DSC00709

Rosie and Marcus endured a 5 month stay with Kaleb in the NICU where daily doctors would say we don’t guarantee his life.  There were days that they both wanted to give up hope, but each time they thought there was no hope, God gave them strength to keep going.

DSC00712

Until one day after being born at 1lb 10 oz and 27 weeks he was discharged after 23 weeks or 5 months in the NICU at 10lbs 1 oz.  What an amazing God of miracles. Notice he reversed his weight at discharge from birth!

DSC02590

This is why Rosie Moore decided to put her story of faith on paper and now in to a movie to help support those moms and dads and healthcare workers that are struggling day in and day out wondering what will become of their child.  Even after they go home on medications, treatments, equipment, there is hope! Today Kaleb is 4 years old and although he only has 1 kidney and some eating issues, the doctors are amazed at his progress and development!

A Letter from one Mother in the NICU to Another Mother

As we approach Mother’s Day and you start to think about what a mother is, what your mother did for you and how you can make someone’s mother day special, this letter came to my mind shared by a fellow NICU( Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit) mother to another.  After going through this experience myself, I know how both mothers feel.

DSC00617DSC01133DSC00656DSC02039DSC02645

Dear New NICU Mom,

I recognized you the other day. You came out of the NICU, your husband right behind you. You walked slowly, like maybe you had a c-section last week, but you didn’t still look pregnant. You were both crying softly. You looked exhausted. I knew that look.

My baby and I had to meet someone in a NICU waiting area at our city’s children’s hospital for a research study. You saw us sitting there in the waiting area. You looked at me. I smiled a sad smile at you and you returned it.

What I wanted to say, what I tried to say in that sad smile, was this:

I know how it feels.

I was you eight months ago.

I have cried those quiet, uncontrollable tears – on a good day by NICU standards – as I put my tiny son back in his incubator after a kangaroo care session, carefully juggling wires and tubes, nestled him in, put a fleece blanket over the box to keep the light out. Watched the monitor to make sure the numbers indicated that he was comfortable before I left. I, too, hesitated before I smoothed the last corner down, peeked through the plexiglass and choked up as I whispered – goodnight, my baby, I love you, I will see you soon.

I have walked that slow, heart-wrenching walk, away from my sweet tiny baby. Pain in my abdomen, where a baby should still be, halting my steps. Crying, not sure if I’m embarrassed for a stranger in the hospital to see my tears, or if maybe crying in a hospital is what people expect, or if I don’t even care.

I am so sorry I am here with my healthy infant, confronting you right here as you leave your baby behind for now.

My gargantuan baby (to you anyway, I know) weighs 15 pounds and 10 ounces today. Five times his birth weight exactly. He is healthy and normal for his adjusted age. No more oxygen, no more wires, no medications. He didn’t even go to the doctor at all in April. I know he looks like a freak of nature to you. Sometimes even I can’t believe this is the same baby who could curl up into a little ball under my cupped hands. That I watched with delight and thanksgiving as his stick-like limbs got chunkier and his little belly became roly-poly and his eyes went from murky blue-gray to clear blue and his ears grew cartilage that makes them stick out.

Your little baby is perfect. How big is your baby? I want to ask. Actual and adjusted age? How is she doing today? Were you able to hold her?

When I smile at you, holding this giant baby, I want to tell you that I hope with all my heart that your baby will be fine too. That the fear slows down as time passes. And if your baby does need oxygen, wheelchairs, braces, monitors, tubes, I want to tell you that a gift of the NICU is that now I can look past the medical devices. If that is what your child needs, when I see you in public in a year or two, I will see your beautiful child, not his equipment.

New NICU mom, in the glance we shared, I just wanted you to know that I’ve been there. This healthy baby on my lap has been where your baby is. We know how much it hurts. It’s okay that you’re crying, NICU mom. Your journey is hard. Sometimes you have to cry. Let me share your burden for a moment. I know how to carry it.

Love,

A recent NICU mom

This letter just brings tears to your eyes.  This is what A Story of Faith is trying to do for NICU moms and dads and the healthcare workers that day in and day out take care of that precious bundle of joy. On September 13, 2014, 27 Miracles is hosting an event called The Gift of Life to benefit Florida Hospital  Walt Disney Children’s Pavillion, The NICU department and the making of the Movie A Story of Faith.  Your attendance and donation to this event will help many parents going through this pain and healthcare workers feeling the stress without their own support to receive this message of hope.  It will help the NICU receive new equipment that will continue to save lives daily.

Please visit our event website to purchase your ticket today and if you cannot attend, please consider a donation to the event, every little bit helps.

World Prematurity Day

Today is World Prematurity Day.  The March of Dimes describes it as “November 17 is World Prematurity Day when we focus everyone’s attention on the global problem of premature birth. Join us in raising awareness.”  Wear purple in support of pre-mature babies and raising awareness.  Many people who have never been affected by having a premature baby or know anyone that has had one, really do not know or understand the challenges that these parents and little ones endure.  Some of these babies do not make it due to the complications that they have.  Some make it and have so many disabilities that they are dependant on care for the rest of their lives and others do make it with minimal to no disabilities.

27 Miracles and A Story of Faith are supporters of World Prematurity Day to raise awareness about prevention of premature birth whenever it is possible.  But when it is circumstances beyond one’s control, what we want to ask is that you be sensitive to parents of preemies and offer love and support.  Sometimes the unspoken word means more than the spoken word.  A simple hug, a meal delivered to the home, an offer to take the siblings to school or for an afternoon of play time.

Rosie Moore, Master Bridal Consultant and event planner for 27 Miracles knows this first hand.  On October 13, 2009, she delivered a baby boy by emergency c-section, due to the health of the baby and her own.  Rosie had stroke level high blood pressure without a single symptom or abnormal lab test.  She is lucky to be alive and that she received the prenatal care needed or the high blood pressure never would have been detected until it was too late.

Today Kaleb, born at 27 weeks, 1lb and 10oz, is a growing boy.  He receives speech therapy and occupational therapy to be assist him with feeding aversions from long-term intubation and tube feedings via a gtube.  He has one kidney and still has issues with his lungs when he gets a simple cold.  But God has blessed him with energy, health and intelligence.

Rosie Moore, wrote a book called A Story of Faith.  The story of Rosie Moore, including the events preceding the miraculous birth of her son, Kaleb. Barely 1 pound, 10 ounces at birth, Kaleb is a LIVING MIRACLE from God. Readers will enjoy this short story surrounding this love story built on prayer, God’s intervention, and the wonderful gift of faith given to people of ordinary means. How God intervenes in a person’s life and how our current troubles may be a hidden blessing in your life, coming directly from the master planner. Part of the proceeds from the book goes to an organization called Nathaniel’s Hope which is a special needs ministry, to help children with special needs. Today her book is being read world wide in the United States, Mexico, Germany, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and more.  Purchase your copy today to read the whole story.

The latest project that 27 Miracles and A Story of Faith are working on is the production of a Movie called A Story of Faith.  Please visit their website to learn more about the movie and how you can get involved in the movie and learn more about it.  Click on the link A Story of Faith the Movie to learn more.

Today is Proud Parent of a Preemie Day

Today March 10, 2013 is Proud Parent of  a Preemie Day.  Rosie Moore of 27 Miracles and Author of A Story of Faith wants you to remember this day and support a Parent of a Preemie today.  Having a Preemie is not something that you  plan for and when it happens to you, your  whole world is turned upside down.  If you know someone who has a baby in the NICU, help them by praying, offering meals, trips to the grocery store for them, babysitting and support in listening to them.  This is a long haul so support in this matter would be appreciated.

As a parent of a preemie herself, Rosie Moore remembers when she had her little Kaleb in the hospital NICU for 5 months.  The meals were not convenient at this time due to the fact that they were never home, however child care became a ,much appreciated thing.  When Kaleb finally did come home, the meals delivered by the members of her church for several weeks were so welcome.

Think of a preemie parent today and lend a helping hand!!
